酥油是什麽呢？在印度傳統中是重要的食用油以及宗教最高級的供燈用油。

現在很多市面上用來供燈的所謂酥油或植物性酥油，其實也能夠稱爲真正的酥油，因爲那些只是使用棕櫚油或大豆油加入色素以及香精，所以不能食用。而在印度傳統中，棕櫚油以及大豆油也是不吉祥的油，並不適合用作宗教供燈。不過很多商人就是謊稱珍貴的純酥油，由於是動物油所以是殺生的，然後就叫人使用廉價和無益處的所謂植物性酥油。
