Incense Fate
In 2007, due to a visit to Chi Lin Nunnery, I smelled a very elegant fragrance in the temple, so I looked around for this smell-the smell of agarwood. Since then, he has forged a bond with Xiangyi. From agarwood, pan incense and sandalwood, I slowly explored the development of he incense by myself, and I also have a certain understanding of Chinese incense art.
In 2011, in order to let more people know about Chinese incense art and get rid of the concept of using Chinese incense art only in religious ceremonies, a special page of "Traditional Chinese Fragrance Art" (ie "Hong Kong Traditional Fragrance Culture Conservation" was established on Facebook. In 2012, with the introduction of a friend and the permission of Professor Zhang Zhanhong, an anthropology professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, I was fortunate to be able to participate in the incense and Taoism workshop of the 21st family of Shiye Ryu, Japan, and learn about the incense and Tao culture from China to Japan. In 2014, he served as a staff member and volunteer instructor in the "Agarwood Conservation Ambassador Training Program" organized by the Tai O Environment and Development Concern Association, sharing knowledge of traditional Chinese incense culture. In October of the same year, I heard that Tianbao Xiangzhuang (Yixiangzhuang) was about to close, and actively contacted the media and cultural conservationists to interview and record it, hoping to arouse public attention to the development of Hong Kong's traditional incense industry.
Speaking at the special meeting of the Environmental Affairs Committee on March 29, 2016, he talked about the illegal logging of wild agarwood is against the spirit of traditional incense and urged the prohibition of the sale of conservation of agarwood. In May of the same year, I visited the factory of the main store of Songeitang in Kyoto, Japan, to understand Japanese incense culture and production process. At the end of 2016, preparations for the opening of traditional incense art classes began.
In January 2017, he co-organized the first traditional incense art class with the Buddhist Youth Association; in July, he co-organized the traditional incense art class with Han Li. It is hoped that the general public of Hong Kong will understand the basic knowledge, history, skills, and concepts of conserving agarwood of traditional incense.
On July 30, 2017, Mr. Deng won the title of champion in the JCI Harbour Youth Chamber of Commerce "Innovation · New Tradition" business activation competition.
On September 3, 2017, invited by the Federation of Hong Kong Chaozhou Societies, held a lecture on traditional incense culture and Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Yulan Cultural Festival 2017, dedicated to spreading the message of preserving Hong Kong's traditional incense culture and Agarwood to Hong Kong citizens.
In September and October 2017, the "Traditional Fragrant Art Experience Workshop" was held at the Lam Tin Integrated Family Service Center of the Social Welfare Department.
Starting in 2018, Hanli started to co-organize incense practice, fire incense, smelling, incense seat experience courses, experience traditional incense tasting methods, and learn traditional incense etiquette.
In 2018, in order to let more different people realize the traditional incense culture, we started to co-organize workshops with different groups, hoping to awaken Hong Kong people's attention to incense culture.
In 2019, the first fragrance smelling meeting will be held, and participants will experience the fun of smelling the traditional incense feast.
