翡翠又稱「硬玉」，與和田玉並列為最尊貴的玉石品種，主要產自緬甸，與和田玉不同的是，翡翠看種水，以越通透水潤為佳，若帶飄翠價值翻倍。
於清朝中期始，翡翠為皇室貢品，是彰顯皇權與身份的珍寶。翡翠以「玉中之王」之姿，深受慈禧太后喜愛，身份若不是皇后、妃嬪或達官貴人的妻妾閨秀，基本上不可能擁有或佩戴上乘的翡翠首飾。

Jadeite ranks alongside Hetian jade as the most prestigious jade variety. 
Since the mid-Qing Dynasty, jadeite was a royal tribute, a treasure symbolizing imperial power and status. As the "King of Jade," it was deeply beloved by Empress Dowager Cixi. Unless one was an empress, concubine, noblewoman, or high-ranking official's wife, owning or wearing fine jadeite jewelry was virtually impossible.
Jadeite is said to "nurture life and ward off evil qi." It contains various trace elements that, with long-term wear, are absorbed through the skin, helping to dispel illness. Jadeite releases heat quickly and has a cooling nature, making it especially suitable for wearing in the hot summer
