Our Mission

Hong Kong Incense Company aimed to concern about the development of Hong Kong traditional incense culture. We wish to assist the conservation of Hong Kong traditional incense culture through promoting traditional incense culture and its spirit via workshops, courses and high quality products. Against illegal logging of Hong Kong agarwood tree and support the  conservation of agarwood tree of Hong Kong.

Mr. Tang passions in participating in different activities of conservation and promotion of  traditional culture, such as performing traditional Chinese music, participating in research and conservation job of intangible culture heritage of Hong Kong (Yu Lan Ghost Festival of the Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community, Jiao Festival)

The start of the way of Incense

In 2007, when Mr. Tang go to the Chi Lin Nunnery for sightseeing, all of a sudden, he smelled a mysterious fragrance of incense in the shrive, it was a peaceful but incredible smell. Therefore, he started his way of Incense to look for that mysterious fragrance of incense--- which is eventually he found out it was the smell of Vietnam agarwood.  Because of the fragrance of agarwood, he started his journey of incense and tried to learn how to make incense by himself.

In 2011, Mr. Tang created a Facebook Page to introduce the Chinese traditional incense by promoting that incense can be used during the leisure time but not merely for religious usage and understanding the fun of burning incense.

In 2012,  Mr. Tang was introduced by his friend to join the Japanese Incense KODO Workshop that held by Professor Sidney Cheung of Anthropology of Chinese University of Hong Kong and taught by the Incense Master Souhitsu Isshiken HACHIYA of The Shino School of Incense KODO of Japan. Mr. Tang  learnt more about spiritual knowledge about Japanese Incense KODO.

​In 2014, Mr. Tang acted as the voluntary teacher and helper to share about the knowledge of Chinese traditional incense culture in the  Agarwood Conservation Ambassador Training Program of the Association for Tai O Environment and Development. In October, Mr. Tang heard about one of his favorite traditional incense brand would stop operation, he actively contacted different media to report about the history of the that brand in order to attract the attention of the Hong Kong People to concern about the importance of conservation the traditional incense industry.

In 20MAR2016, Mr. Tang showed his support on conservation of Hong Kong agarwood tree in the Panel on Environmental Affairs of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong to urge the government to legislate to protect not allowing illegal logging of Hong Kong agarwood tree. In May, Mr. Tang went to Japan famous traditional incense brand Shoyeido's Factory to learn more about the Japanese incense culture and the Japanese incense production.

​In January 2017, Mr. Tang has started teaching Traditional incense courses in the Buddhist Youth Association (Hong Kong) and in July, he has started teaching Traditional incense courses in the Han Li, in order to let more Hongkonger to understand the incense culture and history. On 30 July, Mr. Tang won the Champion in the Competition of Commercial Revitalizing of Traditional Industry that held by the Junior Chamber International Harbour. In September, Mr. Tang was invited to hold a talk during the Yu Lan Festival that held by Federation of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community Organization. In the same month, Mr, Tang was invited by the Social Welfare Department of Hong Kong to hold a traditional incense workshop.

From 2018 on, Mr, Tang was invited by different organizations to hold traditional incense workshop to promote traditional incense culture. He has also started to teach courses related to traditional KODO in the Han Li.

He is planning to hold English traditional incense courses in order to let more non-Chinese Hongkonger to learn more about the traditional incense culture, which is the origin of Hong Kong
